GPX-32 FAQ's

What is the maximum distance that I can connect to the GPX-32 serially?

The RS232 Standard for the GPX32 and other like serial devices specifies a maximum cable  length of 50-feet, or a cable length equal to a capacitance of 2500-uf, at maximum communication speed.  A lower capacitance cable or a lower speed allows a longer distance.  In high-energy radiation or RF fields, a properly shielded cable is recommended.

Is the GPX-32 expandable?

Yes, the GPX32 can be daisy-chained with up to four (4) units to provide a multitude of controls, analog readings, and status indicators.

Does the GPX32 have built in surge protection?

The GPX32 has surge protection built in to protect the circuits within the unit. It is recommended that the facility have proper grounding techniques employed to protect all systems from AC power or lightning strike surges.  An external UPS does not necessarily  provide surge protection.

How much rack space does a GPX-32 or Punch-Down-Panel require?

The GPX32 takes up 1-RU (1.75 vertical inches)  while the Punch-Down-Panel (PDP) takes up 2-RU in a standard equipment rack.
